- Step 1.
- Apply strips of torn masking tape to your vase using a zebra photograph as a guide to position.
- Step 2.
- Stipple black paint from the top edge of the first strips to about halfway down the vase.
- Step 3.
- While the paint is still wet, clean the brush, then use it to apply the brown paint working from the base of the vase toward the top.
- Step 4.
- Merge the two colour together where they meet. Work on one section at a time so that the paint doesn't dry too quickly and remains manageable. Apply additional coats until you are happy with the depth of colour, letting each coat dry before applying the next.
- Step 5.
- When the last coat of paint is dry, carefully peel off the masking tape. Bake the vase in the oven following the manufacturer's instructions.
Variation: Create a two-tone where paint the top part with one colour and the bottom half with another colour.
