Home » Mosaic
Supplies:
- Wicker White and baby pink ( or any colour of you like) acrylic paint
- Gesso, optional
- Scrapbook papers
- No. 20 shader and 3/4 inch oval wash brushes
- Faux mosaic grout
- Faux mosaic tile adhesive or other matte adhesive
- Faux mosaic tile glaze or other thick dimensional glaze
- Scissors
- Palette
- Water basin
- Paper towels
- Outdoor sealer
- Gloss vanish
Instructions:
- Step 1.
- Prepare the surface, then paint the front of the napkin holder with Wicker White or gesso using the no.20 shader brush. Wash and dry the brush and use it to paint the rest of the holder, including the underside with the colour that you choose.
- Step 2.
- Slip-slap faux grout on the front of the holder using the 3/4-inch oval wash brush. To create the texture of real grout, don't spread the grout too thin. Set aside to dry.
- Step 3.
- Cut the scrapbook paper for each design. Avoid squares, triangles, rectangles and curved cuts. Keep the cuts random and uneven to get the most realistic look.
- Step 4.
- Brush adhesive onto a small portion of the front of the holder, brush glue on the back of the tiles and place tiles on the adhesive. Brush adhesive over the top of the tiles to secure.
- Step 5.
- Outline a tile with faux glaze using the applicator bottle, then fill in the center. Repeat for each tile and let glaze dry completely. Appy two more coats of glaze to each tile, letting each coat dry thoroughly. To finish the piece, vanish the painted parts with brush-on gloss vanish.
