Faux Mosaics-Instead of glass or ceramic tiles, faux mosaics use bits of cut paper - pretty scrapbook paper, stickers, wallpaper cutouts, favorite photos, stamped and painted cardstock. In three easy step, no-mess steps, you can create a mosaic masterpiece in minutes, not hours. It’s so easy even kids can do it!
Supplies:
- Key chain fob
- Light Gray acrylic paint
- Scrapbook papers
- No. 12 falt brush
- Faux Mosaic Title Adhesive or other matte adhesive
- Faux Mosaic Title Glaze or thick dimensional glaze
- Scissors
- Palette paper
- Water basin
- Papar towel
- Sealer
Instructions:
- Step 1.
- Seal the key chain fob and paint with white paint or gesso. When dry, paint both sides of the fob with light gray paint using a no.12 flat brush. Apply a second coat of light gray paint to the for full and even coverage.
- Step 2.
- Cut the scrapbook papers into small pieces ( to create a convincing faux effect, these pieces should look like actual but or smashed tile) . With the no.12 flat brush, apply adhesive to a small section of the surface. Working in a small area allows you to apply the tiles before the adhesive dries.
- Step 3.
- With pieces this small, use the corner of your brush to pick up the tile and place it on the surface.
- Step 4.
- Brush more adhesive over the top of the tile when every pieces are done to secure it to the surface.
- Step 5.
- When the adhesive is completely dry, apply glaze to each tile using the applicator bottle. Take care to keep the glaze on the tile, so that the grout remains matte. Outline the tile with glaze first, then fill in the center of the tile . Apply 3 coats of glaze, allowing the glaze to dry to a completely clear finish before applying the next coat.
- Step 6.
- There is no need to varnish the piece if you choose to apply the mosaic to the both side of the key chain. If not, vanish the back side to protect the paint.
