Supplies:
- Coasters
- Licorice, Dark gray, Light gray and metallic silver sterling acrylic paint
- Bright coloured wallpaper or scrapbook paper
No.12 flat brush
- Faux Mosaic Tile Adhesive or matte adhesive
- Faux mosaic tile glaze or other thick dimensional glaze
- Sea sponge
- Scissors
- Palette
- Water basin
- Paper towels
- Outdoor sealer
- Gloss vanish
Instructions:
- Step 1.
- Swirl all the paints on the palette.Pounce a damp sea sponge in the paint several times, turning it each time to get a mottled effect.
- Step 2.
- Pounce the sponge on the coaters, twisting it one-quarter turn in your hand each time to get variation in the colours. Periodically pick up more paint from the palette to vary the look of th grout. Let the paint dry completely.
- Step 3.
- Cut pieces of wallpaper into tiles appropriate for the size of the coaster into uneven shapes that emulate broken tile.
- Step 4.
- With the no.12 flat brush, apply adhesive onto the surface. Work in a small area, so you can adhesive the tiles before the glue dries.
- Step 5.
- Because the wallpaper come with adhesive on the back, you don't need to brush more glue on it. Simply place the tiles on the surface and brush glue over them to secure.
- Step 6.
- Outline the tile with glaze using the applicator bottle. Then fill in the center of the tile. Apply three coats of glaze to each til, allowing the glaze to dry to a clear finish before applying the next coat.
