Leafty Aluminium Garland

Thread these sparkling silvery oak leaves onto a silver cord and make a festive garland to drape around the beautiful Christmas tree, hung with silver baubles. Aluminum is soft and easiest to use of all the metal foils. It is reminiscent of all the marvelous tin work that appears in folk art throughout the world.
Supplies:
- Outline a oak leaf to make a template
- Roll of aluminum foil 16.5 cm (6 /12 inch) wide and 0.1mm thick
- Wad of folded tissue paper
- Dry ballpoint pen
- Sewing tracing wheel
- Small, pointed scissors
- Bradawl
- 2m (2 ¼ yard) silver cord
Instructions:
- Step 1.
- Place the template on the aluminum foil and rest it on the wad of tissue paper.
- Step 2.
- Draw around the template with dry ballpoint pen, pressing firmly.
- Step 3.
- You will need to draw about 20 leaves.
- Step 4.
- Remove the template.
- Step 5.
- Pressing hard with the tracing wheel, make pattern of the leaf veins on the aluminum foil.
- Step 6.
- Carefully cut out each leaf with the small, pointed scissors about 2mm (1/8 in) away from the outline of the leaf.
- Step 7.
- Working on the tissue paper and using the bradawl, make a hole in the base end of the leaf large enough to thread the silver cord through.
- Step 8.
- You can make this garland as long as you like, just add one leaf approximately every 10 cm (4 in).
