Create a small, shaped tree of miniture lights to mark your entry and to brighten steps during the dark winter nights.
Supplies:
- Tomato cage, 76cm high
- Galvanized steel wire, 12-gauge; wire cutter
- Electrical tape
- 16 yd. metallic garland
- 2 weatherproof, end-to-end strings of 100 miniature lights
- Outdoor-rated extension cord.
Instructions:
- Step 1.
- Turn cage upside down. Cut three wire pieces 2.5cm longer than existing support. Bend back 2.5cm around bottom hoop. Secure wires to hoops halfway between supports, using electrical wire. Tape all wire together at top. Secure one light string at top; drop male plug so it rests easily on ground.
- Step 2.
- Secure end of garland to top of cage. Wrap garland around cage toward bottom, holidng lights out of way. Join garland lengths as necessary to cover cage. Wrap light string around cage; turn bulbs out as string wind toward bottom. Join light strings as necessary, hiding plug ends in garland. Plug lights into cord; plug cord into outdoor-rated circuit reception. Fluff garland to partially cover strings. Place tree at side of steps.
