Chunky Gravel Candle

Supplies:
- Multicoloued aquarium gravel
- Paraffin wax
- Wax dye
- Saucepan ( to act as a mold)
- Double boiler
- A large bowl
- Primed wick
- Masking tape
- Scissors and a skewer
Instructions:
- Step 1.
- Half-fill a large bowl with gravel. Using a saucepan, form a hollow in the center of the gravel to act as the mold for the wax. Moistening the gravel will help it hold its shape before the wax is pour. Remove the saucepan carefully, trying not to disturb the surrounding gravel.
- Step 2.
- Before pouring wax into the mold measure a length of primed wick from the base of the hollow to the top of the bowl and trim to size. You will need a total of four wicks of equal length.
- Step 3.
- Melt the wax, add wax dye, and pour the mixture into the mold until it is half full. Pour the wax over the back of a spoon so the gravel does not move.
- Step 4.
- Place two length of the tape across the mould. Punch four holes in the tape with askewer and thread the trimmed wicks through- the tape will suspend the wicks and prevent them from sinking into the wax. Fill with the remaining wax.
- Step 5.
- Leave the candle to set for about 3 hours before removing it from the mold. The gravel will stick to the wax, forming a coating on the outside of the candle. Neaten the finish candle by brushing off excess lump of gravel.
